Mngqithi Provides Injury Update on Lorch
Mamelodi Sundowns boss Manqoba Mngqithi has provided an update on injured midfielder, Thembinkosi Lorch.
Since joining the Brazilians in January 2024, Lorch has only scored six goals in 20 appearances across all competitions, having been hampered by niggling injuries. As of writing, he is currently recovering from what is believed to be an ankle injury.
Following a training session on Thursday, 12 September, Mngqithi gave a somewhat promising update on the 31-year-old midfielder:
“Lorch is as close as possible to the matchday squad; he [participated in] a friendly we played against Sekhukhune United [last Wednesday, 4 September]. He’s been training quite well – it was just unfortunate [that] today he had a minor stiffness in his hamstring and pulled out early from training.”
A hopeful Mngqithi added: “Otherwise, we’re happy with the contribution he might make, and we’re happy with the commitment and level of professionalism he’s shown throughout.”
Mamelodi Sundowns are scheduled to play against Eswatini’s Mbabane Swallows in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria, Gauteng this Saturday, 14 September.
